Founded in 1984, the Universal Vacation Club is a unique vacation option that allows members to a club membership and vacation lease in four different resorts. With all of their destinations located in Mexico, the resorts are centered around a warm, tropical theme on the beautiful beaches of Mexico overlooking bright teal waters.
The Universal Vacation Club promotes its Gold Membership package, offering a special helpline for Gold members. They also exclusively enjoy special early reservations, priority room assigning, extended stays, and free upgrades. Timeshare members at Universal Vacation Club can expect well maintained rooms, pristine pools and manicured landscaping. Vacationers can go whale watching in Cabo San Lucas, or play a round of golf in Puerto Vallarta. There are enjoyable activities for all ages and all types of vacationers.
As with most timeshare companies, Universal Vacation Club allows members to “bank” their fixed week to save for future dates. However, unlike many resorts, banking a week cost $70.00 per week, per year. Gold members however enjoy free week banking. This banking can occur for up to three years before the weeks begin to expire. However, for those wishing to travel outside of the Universal Vacation Club resorts in Mexico, membership in alternate exchange programs is available and suggested. The option of both RCI and Interval International are available and participation in either is the choice of the member. These two competing exchange companies allow vacation owners from around the world to exchange weeks and properties with each other from year to year.
All members are welcome at Universal Vacation Club’s annual member’s meeting. This is a weekend filled with complimentary dinners and events to celebrate ownership in their club. Guests are welcome for an additional fee.Unlike most timeshare resorts, members at Universal Vacation Club do not own their weeks. The vacation is not deeded property, but is instead a lease that expires after thirty years. Unfortunately, this means that the program carries no equity. However, the upside means that members do not have to pay property taxes as a part of their yearly maintenance fees.
As of now, there are some negative reviews of the Universal Vacation Club including reported problems with presentation fraud. As with any timeshare purchase, there is a grace period of a few days before the deal is solid. Despite these ill feelings, the resorts maintain a Better Business Bureau rating of B-.
