Spinnaker Resorts focuses on warm weather vacation spots, opening its first of 6 on Hilton Head Island, SC in 1982. The company now has a total of 10 resorts, with 2 each in Branson, Missouri and Ormond Beach, Florida as well.
Southwind Management Corporation was created by Spinnaker in 1993 to manage its more than 550 timeshares.
Spinnaker has been recognized by exchange partners for excellence. Interval International bestowed the Premier and Select titles and Resorts Condominium International the Gold Crown award.
The brainchild of Canadians Ken and Joan Taylor, the idea of developing timeshares was born after many family vacations in Hilton Head. The family was smitten with the abundance of swimming, golf, tennis and cycling in the ocean community, so they decided to create a resort of their own. After their first success, they built more.
Spinnaker derived its name from the boatbuilding background of Ken Taylor’s family. The nautical theme permeates all of their time share vacation destinations, although each resort has a distinct personality that separates it from the rest.
The Hilton Head resorts vary in focus from serene, secluded getaways to golf havens and activity-laden family environments. Properties are located near the ocean, Intracoastal Waterway or marina.
The Ormond Beach resorts are both oceanside timeshare properties with an emphasis on beach and water activities. One is geared toward families, the other focusing more on relaxation and amenities for grown-ups.
The Branson resorts are at the foot of the Ozark Mountains, with one focusing on amenities such as pools and hot tubs and the other touting its convenience and proximity to local lakes and entertainment.
